How can TILvids be improved?

We would love to you hear your thoughts on how TILvids can be improved.

A nice small addendum would be that creators who crosspost from e.g. Youtube advertise their TILvids page on their main channel, even discretely in the “about” page. It took me looking for TILvids in the Twitter follows of a couple of creator to be convinced that their content on TILvids was not a ripoff.

This comment works for peertube in general, when browsing SepiaSearch I always have this fear to end up watch some content stolen from Youtube

This is something I’ve constantly struggled with. I frequently get “THIS GUY IS JUST RIPPING OFF YOUTUBERS!” when I have painfully gone through and vetted almost every single creator that is either posting their content to TILvids or that we re-post (with their permission). It sort of underscores the main problem I have with PeerTube right now, that it’s just the wild-west of content, and I’m really trying to legitimize it a bit.

I wish I had a better solution. I think it’s something that will just take time.

Thanks a lot for putting that work up !

Indeed I don’t see what more can be done on your side, I really think it’s the creators who should officially endorse their TILvids channel on their other media.

There are creators such as the attic dwellers, anthill art and others who upload their content directly on TILvids. There are also content uploaded to TILvids with permission from the creator.

Oh I know that. My comment is about how hard it is to convince oneself that it is indeed the case, when it would be enough to just add one line on their about page on Youtube.

The Attic Dwellers are a perfect example, being active on both Youtube and TILvids and yet not having a mention to that in their about page.

Now I got it. Good suggestion. I will pass this on to @TILvids@lemmy.ml

I watch tilvids on mastodon and boost videos from there. Perhaps what’s holding tilvids back is lack of awareness of how to utilize the fediverse.

That’s certainly possible. It’s something we’re all learning (and inventing) on the fly. Thank you very much for your support, it’s appreciated!

My biggest question is how do we keep people coming back to the site? Right now, I post a TILvids video of the day to Twitter, Mastodon, and Reddit (and @the_tech_beast@lemmy.ml graciously reposts on Lemmy as well) but I’d love to know how to keep people coming back to TILvids daily, like they would YouTube, Netflix, etc.

It is what every channel is looking for, more views, more returns, more engagement, growth. It is understandable of course, but I would not consider failure if you feel you are not going fast enough. Is it because you make this a full-time job? There are youtube videos that pick up after 2 years, the other day I saw a website that got international attention after even 11 years. I think your content is good and as soon you focus on quality and be happy in making them, it will turn out well. Maybe get a couple of translators to voice over your videos in Spanish / Chinese / French to create these language versions. Perhaps look into reaching other channel creators that have bigger audience and the content is related, asking for a shout-out. If you already are doing what they are doing and at the same quality level but you just don’t hit the numbers, don’t think there is something wrong. Also in this period people are leaving lockdown so there is a downward trend in digital engagement everywhere. I am not a channel expert but I do see this anxiety of engagement in many heads, and it is an affliction.

Well, I’m actually the admin of the entire tilvids.com website, so I’m trying to advocate for dozens of creators! So it’s actually even trickier than just trying to make good content, I have to find LOTS of good content and creators that fit the edutainment focus of tilvids.com! :)

Make sure to check out some of the other videos on the website! https://tilvids.com/videos/recently-added

I see! Maybe this is a useful idea, there are some channels that at the end of the videos they ask “what theme do you want me to do a video next? option 1 or option 2?” and the viewers answer in the comments. I think this simple interaction might help bring more ppl back for the next video.

Interesting, I will pass that feedback along to our creators! Make sure to follow along on Mastodon as well, especially if you have additional feedback! https://mstdn.social/@tilvids
