    Right now it just occurred to me (after more than 3 decades of handling them) that IPv4 octets are nearly always presented in decimal form. Hex would seem more natural, and the analogous elements of IPv6 addresses are indeed presented in hex.

      duodecimal / dozenal seems to have a larger following.

      I’m intrigued about the following of duodecimal. Can you tell me more? At least among programmers, hexadecimal is much more widely used.

        I’m afraid I can’t explain the reason, and I’m not a dozenal follower myself, but base 12 has historically been used for many things, such as imperial measurements and currencies. I originally noticed that the subreddit of dozenal is about 20 times larger than that of hexadecimal. I’ve also found a few dozenal societies, but searching for “hexadecimal society”, the first result is for dozenalsociety.org.uk, and nothing relevant after that. The websites of these societies have some reasoning for base 12, though I still firmly believe base 16 is superior.
