update: Joshua Browder’s artificial intelligence startup, DoNotPay, planned to have an AI-powered bot argue on behalf of a defendant in a case next month, but he says threats from bar associations have made him drop the effort.
Next up… Elon Musk is going to push it before it’s ready. Lawyers going to do well 60 percent of the time… except that it’s going to talk faster randomly… and randomly dive after any law enforcement or doctors that happen to be in the courtroom.
there was a chatbot that could negotiate a credit on your comcast bill years ago: https://www.theverge.com/2016/11/17/13656264/comcast-bill-negotiator-bot-argue-money-customer-service
it looks like this company DoNotPay is now doing the same thing but with new LLMs: https://www.pcmag.com/news/watch-donotpays-ai-chatbot-renegotiate-a-comcast-bill-to-be-120-lower
i would guess that their court case will be one about something like traffic citations where the judge may as well be chatgpt too.
I would laugh my ass off if that worked.
They will probably be picking easy cases in the beginning to promote it saying “look! it works fine, you don’t need to pay a lawyer pay us instead”.
I would welcome the decline of those capitalism lackeys, but it’s still capitalism, so i bet it will be change for the worse.
