As the weeb I am, I read a lot of manga and light novels, more speciffically; Isekai [other world]

Many of them seem to be very similar in plot: I died got reincanated/was summoned to another world, then s#!t went down and now I’m OP.

I want to rectify this by suggesting an alternative plot; a mage/sorcerer is mocking about with/researching spacial distortion magic and tears the spacetime continuum/teleports geting isekai’d to modern day giving way to two bossibilities:

  1. a slice of life as the mage is adjusting to modern day life or
  2. an Epic about how a man was researching sorcery and is now trying to incorporate science into his research advancing lightyears ahead and subsequently becoming a demiurge

I love TWA! I have paid a lot of attention to them, Overly Sarcastic Productions, and Hello Future Me. Hopefully that will help my own writing. :)

So, based on your reading preference, might I suggest you check out Royal Road? a ton of Isekai and LitRPG stuff there. My own story is neither, so other stuff works too, but those are really popular there.

And as for more interesting Isekai routes, I do agree. In the case of a different story I have started playing with, our Protag dies of very specific causes that have damaged her soul, so she can’t go transition to an afterlife or undergo normal memory-suppression reincarnation without risking soul destruction, so the goddess handling her case basically has to send out a ping to see if anyone else has an opening to do a Divine Intervention reincarnation. Naturally, there is, or the story wouldn’t go very far. And she’s not going to be OP, her advantage is going to be starting off with some basic instructions so she can use meditation and exercises to fix the damaged chi pathways in her soul. Other than that, she’s starting off life as a young fox in the wilderness.

So yes, some of us are finding ways to make the Isekai concept more interesting.
