The CPC’s lifting of 800 million people out of poverty should be seen as one of the greatest achievements in human history, and this happened within the last 30 years.

China’s already surpassed the US as the primary trading partner of most countries, and as a result we are seeing US imperialism unravel before our eyes.

Communism is like truth in that Buddha quote: “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.” They managed to stop the USSR(the first experiment, the canary in the coal mine) and the eastern bloc by pulling out all the stops, but they failed at stopping China, Vietnam, and Cuba.

The multipolar world is here now, the hegemon’s power is fading, and the global south will now have the ability to choose alternatives to western liberal capital dictatorship, without threat of military attack and economic strangulation.

I have never been more hopeful for the future. I can’t ever remember feeling so much hope as I have done in the past couple of years. A hundred years will pass during the next decade. The world will be guided by communism in my lifetime. I did not think I would get to see it. But since around 2020 my view has changed.

Since then, when people irl talk shit about China, Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Cuba, Venezuela, wherever, or whoever, I can’t help but smile and try not to smirk. I’m chuckling inside, thinking, ‘Time will tell’.

Edit: The tipping point, if you’re interested, was watching China build fully equipped hospitals for thousands of Covid patients in a matter of days and weeks. I can’t tell you how proud I was to see organised workers move so quickly to save lives, bolstered soon after by embargoed Cuba sending medics to Italy. There’s no stopping a force driven by such compassion.

Ultimately optimism is a choice—pessimism begets inaction and should be resisted.

For the future in a few decades, yeah. Living in the imperial core, I’m not hopeful for the short term, but in the long term, I’m hoping that socialism will continue to spread across the Global South and eventually workers here will realize that they’re being shafted

In the long term, yes. In the short term, not so much, but I don’t let that stop me, because in order for something good to exist in the future, we have to work for it now.

Somewhat. I feel this year will continue to be worse, but as marxists, we should have some form of optimism otherwise we can’t do anything.

When I think of the US’s future, honestly yes. But globally I have hope. More and more South and Central American nations are starting to seek a path of Socialism in some form or are SocDem at the very least which is a strong turn from the Fascist leaders of its past. I have hope for the world to be more Multipolar, in any way that takes form. The US led Rules Based Order of Unipolar Hegemonic Forces are waning. China is growing and defending itself while masterfully avoiding war and mass sanctions. I have hope for Vietnam and China to become closer in the coming years and decades. I have hope for North Korea to become more prosperous and self-sufficient and honestly Cuba just needs to keep doing its thing and being based af and hopefully the embargoes will end sometime in the future. I know most of what I’m saying isn’t dialectically Material-based but it’s what gives me hope. Also I have hope for Palestine to be free someday

This maybe a vulgar idealist take, but I really do think that gen z has the correct instincts for guiding us into the future. Yes there is a lot of obstacles. Yes there is the opportunity for immense tragedies, some which will be inevitible like climate catastrophe. But ultimately they have the temperament and sensitivity for others that will influence the generation after them.

As a Millennial, the same thing can’t really be said for the way we grew up and were raised.

Long term and for socialist nations? Yes, I’ll always choose to retain at least some revolutionary optimism. I don’t think humans will go extinct this century or anything like that. As for my personal life, I have never felt worse, so at the moment I have very little hope. I dont think that’s what you were asking, though.

It is foolish to ignore the nearly baked in mass suffering on a global scale that we will endure in the coming decade. Things will get worse, I’m almost sure of it. The hegemon almost won, and this will have consequences.

However, this does not mean its over or that we shouldn’t be hopeful for the future. Plenty of great things are happening in the world; plenty of anti-capitalist things. As a species, I do have genuine faith that we will make it. My recent doomer post more revolved around my specific generation in the United States and my flailing personal life. I still believe China will come out on top, that socialism will prevail, and that eventually we will live in a better world.

For me personally or for humanity as a whole?

Warning I’m kind of in a doomer mood right now so this is not as optimistic as many in this thread. Apologies in advanced if this upsets anyone.

Hopeful for humanity? Maybe. It’s a knifes edge to surviving climate change and the only way that happens is for global capitalism to fail faster that I think it is. It’s definitely one it’s way down. Shits really starting to get shaky. I am just not sure it’s happening fast enough. I hope that happens, but my the hope I have that it will happen is questionable.

For myself? No. Not really. I’m basically just trying to see how long I can hold onto whatever peacefulness I have in my life for as long as I can. Eventually the west will fall but as I live there my life will get worse and worse and as a communist I’m sure I will be attacked for it eventually. I’m sure the feds already have a list with my name one it. Even if that didn’t happen all it would take is a couple months of no electricity and I’m fucked. Plain and simple. I live now in a little bubble where I get on here and am happy talking to comrades but realistically I’m just hiding from the part of me that knows just how bad things will get and how woefully unprepared I am for it. Yet I honestly hope this happens. If the west were to fall apart tomorrow. Turn into utter chaos as the empire crumbles. I would be fucked, but life on this planet may just be able to survive.

I have revolutionary optimism, but personally, not that much even though I’m currently relatively well off (“middle class”).
