Palmares Cultural Foundation is a public institution whose mission is to “preserve and promote Afro-Brazilian art and culture” is in a midst of a controversy after its current reactionary president Sérgio Camargo said he will remove works from Carlos Marighella, Stalin and Lenin, adding that “Marxism will be exorcised from Palmares”.

“The Palmares Foundation in its thirty years was used as a repository of Marxist trash”, said the reactionary president. He began to serve as president in 2019, right after Bolsonaro came to power.
