I have learned that format of DD-MMM-YY (13Dec22) is best all around because it is fairly unmistakable and also really throws other Americans off but not so much as to cause errors. Like they give you this momentarily confused then annoyed look but also nothing more need done because it’s fairly obvious what the date is. lol
DD-MM-Year is the best written format for dating by far, but MM-DD-Year is significantly better for speaking, it rolls off the tongue much better then DD-MM.
Ex: July 22nd, 2005 vs 22nd of July, 2005
In Dutch it makes more sense to say DD MM but luckily we can’t all speak Dutch.

My russian is pretty weak but iirc date is said dd-mm-yyyy, same as polish and in russian numerals are actually easier to pronounce than polish ones.
My mistake, all my ancestors are very disappointed in me now, I don’t know why I completely blanked and flipped the DD-MM for Russian, but you are right about that.
absolutely true for chinese - usually for example 12月13日 for 12/13.
I believe the arguments for months first was from a farming practicality standpoint as well. The month is the most important detail to farmers schedules and thus listed first in the application. Then the day of the month next as that’s next most important. At least last time I read up on this that’s the explanation I got.
