Well, with the smart lights in my home you can not only change the brightness, but also the light temperature (warm/cold/neutral). I have an automation that dims all the lights at night so you don’t become blind when you have to get up. And in our bedroom, the lights slowly become brighter so you wake up comfortably.
You can do all this without “smart” lighting, e.g. with dimmers, switches and timers, but every time you change something you have to actually change physical parameters. Automation like this with logic circuits is a lot harder than with a simple web interface like home-assistant.io.

You can’t see stuff when there is absolutely no light at all. Humans can see in super low light, but not in complete darkness.
