I mean we had countless of protests during our two year covid lockdown period. Did our entire country collapse because of these protests? No. It were just a few thousand people being mad.

These things happen in China as well. It’s a big country with a lot of people. A single protest does not mean China is going to collapse, despite what the media wants you to believe.

Watching Westerners celebrate these events as if larger protests haven’t happened in the US in the past few years has killed my few remaining braincells

This is a terrible analogy. From what I’ve seen, this protest in China is nowhere near the level of the 2020 protests. Wait until someone occupies a major government building, burns down a police station, or creates a Shanghai version of CHAZ. If that happened, we could say the situation is not normal and leadership has failed, but I think it’s unlikely.

Oh no. I guess China has to give up communism and be saddled with a western 2 party bourgois system so that they can finally know freedom. 😔

Spoiler alert. This would change NOTHING on international relations as Chinese nationalists will NOT be the lackey of the west.

“so rare” that no one bothered to get an overview show of this supposedly “rare” protest, yknow? I’m of the opinion that these protests might have a kernel of legitimate complaint, but are highly likely astroturfed as we know many movements like the milk tea alliance were.

How does it make sense for the CPC to step down??? I’m sure the party is more than able to take in criticism from nonparty members and be responsive (I’m talking about people in China here, because some of the videos I’m seeing on reddit literally have some white people in them lol… Foreign students I take it). This is the same CPC that had something like a 80%+ approval rating, why would they step down???

It’s more like 95% : “The survey team found that compared to public opinion patterns in the U.S., in China there was very high satisfaction with the central government. In 2016, the last year the survey was conducted, 95.5 percent of respondents were either “relatively satisfied” or “highly satisfied” with Beijing. In contrast to these findings, Gallup reported in January of this year that their latest polling on U.S. citizen satisfaction with the American federal government revealed only 38 percent of respondents were satisfied with the federal government.”

Friends have said they want a region by region open up, one region opens up at a time, central govt points all resources to that region, once cases decline, move to next region and repeat, eventually China is adjusted to living with covid, while avoiding total system overload from letting it run rampant and crucially, keep death rate low, years and years of lockdowns in untenable for most people, in private conversation, even active party members are getting tired.

Idk the solution, but i think something has to change.

The Omicron variant seems to be a real challenge, but western media will never be content with reality and have to extrapolate to make it look like the economy will shatter and that people are literally going to overthrow the government right now

    • I think they should build infrastructure to eliminate all transmissible diseases and keep rates at zero for rhinovirus, RSV, flu, everything. Make China the land where no one gets sick and expand the programs outward with open border areas with a post-infection zone encompassing Laos, Vietnam, and the DPRK. Then run constant propaganda depicting the West as sickly, dirty, and diseased

Whether the lockdown should be lifted in principle or not, the government does have to balance the fact that because a lot of the world hasn’t taken COVID seriously, they’ve got a lot of social pressure from their own populace to adapt. COVID will unfortunately always be here because the Western world has no incentive to change or cooperate as long as they can point to China comparatively as a totalitarian hellhole, you know, for taking a global pandemic seriously.

This feels a lot like the spirit of the Berlin Wall conflict of narratives.

  • From the footage I saw it was a bunch of protesters up against folks in full ppe, id take that over the cops, army or national guard. Weather it’s astroturfed or not, at least people can protest without getting a billy club to the face or being shot at directly with rubber bullets, unlike in the US.

Some of those bastards IIRC have assaulted doctors and other workers associated with the COVID-policy, and destroyed some infrastructure like testing sites

Vaccines prevent COVID, a cure kills it after you are infected. This way, one could just take a pill instead of quarantining and stuff.

  • “During the cold war, the anticommunist ideological framework could transform any data about existing communist societies into hostile evidence. If the Soviets refused to negotiate a point, they were intransigent and belligerent; if they appeared willing to make concessions, this was but a skillful ploy to put us off our guard. By opposing arms limitations, they would have demonstrated their aggressive intent; but when in fact they supported most armament treaties, it was because they were mendacious and manipulative. If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed; but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime’s atheistic ideology. If the workers went on strike (as happened on infrequent occasions), this was evidence of their alienation from the collectivist system; if they didn’t go on strike, this was because they were intimidated and lacked freedom. A scarcity of consumer goods demonstrated the failure of the economic system; an improvement in consumer supplies meant only that the leaders were attempting to placate a restive population and so maintain a firmer hold over them.

If communists in the United States played an important role struggling for the rights of workers, the poor, African-Americans, women, and others, this was only their guileful way of gathering support among disfranchised groups and gaining power for themselves. How one gained power by fighting for the rights of powerless groups was never explained. What we are dealing with is a nonfalsifiable orthodoxy, so assiduously marketed by the ruling interests that it affected people across the entire political spectrum.”

Lemme guess, this “major anti-seeseepee uprising” was 100 or so Karens throwing a temper tantrum in a city of 20 million. Probably less than the trucker convoy.

And notice how the police didn’t start shooting them like Reddit thought they would. Or you know, like how the US actually did in the BLM riots?

  • One thing people need to realize is these anti-lockdown protests are not necessarily anti-government protests. China’s government has 95% approval rating
