For some reason I put in on (yay being sick and bored) and so far it seems pretty… anti-capitalist? Like, not even hidden anti-capitalist.

Is it actually worth watching?

  • I think it’s a great show, though the over-the-top gore isn’t my cup of tea.

The “anti-capitalism” is Western leftist “anti-capitalism”. They literally have the CIA as part of the good guys who want to regulate the supes and the corporation behind them.

It makes jabs at conservatism and sometimes even at cultural liberalism and capitalist pinkwashing, but it still ultimately remains within the framework of liberalism.

I don’t trust anything that is approved for Amazon fucking prime. Something about that show bothers me, if it was genuinely anti capitalist then its all encompassing marketing and the push by Amazon to get people watching would not be so strong.

I really like it, because I always felt like The Boys is what supers would be if they existed. I don’t believe in Justice Leagues, in Avengers, even in Defenders. Hell, the only collective of supers my suspension of disbelief stays intact for is the Brotherhood of Mutants-- I believe that if you gave a human of this era the kind of powers of a Superman, or a Green Lantern, or a Charles Xavier, they’d abuse it every chance they got. The Boys feels like the demonstration of that thesis.

Concur with some of the other commenters, though-- it could be so much more based than it currently is, cause it still has a lot of lib tendencies.
