I haven’t seen the movie in forever, but I feel like it probably still holds up?

Robocop absolutely holds up, one of the best movies of the 80s. Its a critique of the US’s police-state, its corporate defense industry that holds power over many cities, its perpetual war on drugs, and poverty-rife cities. Robocop (whose original purpose is to be used in a corporate power-play), highlights the contradictions of the system by ending up targeting the security company and its drug-dealer accomplice itself, who killed his wife.

The only part of the movie I think that was somewhat suspect, is it might glorify robocop when he’s put into action and kills a bunch of petty street-dealers, but I forget how much it does that.

    • It waa directed by the same guy that did Starship Troopers.

And we can just HAVE A DAY talking about this movie.

When we first see Murphy before he dies; he is a good man. Look at him. Honestly I remember him being kinda soft as a cop. And he dies. He gets killed by the system. And like many good people who tend to start down these paths; he becomes a machine. He lost his humanity for corporate and the state.

Then he gets his humanity back and fights off the very directive, the very grip of the state on his mind. And what did he do? He pulled a Dorner.
