Have her book on my to-read list. This is one of the most underreported health problems imo

Trying to carefully avoid right-wing conspiracy theories: Maybe it is not so much spreading prosperity and women rights (as classic population theory insists) that make reproduction rates plummet everywhere? I mean it makes intuitive sense that richer (!=rich) people might want less children and that women with more agency over their own bodies would limit the number of children they get…but the same time these problematic chemicals probably spread in society the exact same time & rate people get richer…

Actually an interesting idea. It would be interesting to see what the biggest sources of these chemicals are and when they were introduced to today’s industrialized societies just to see if they coincide with a dip in reproduction.

Widespread infertility also means that only rich people will be able to get children by artificial insemination while the less fortunate will have to try to get kids naturally and most likely won’t succeed. I don’t even want to think about the societal rift that might occur because of this.

Hmm yeah. I am sure you would be able to find a correlation… but there are so many co-founding factors that it would be very easy to draw the wrong conclusions…

I don’t think this will be a real issue, though, I’m sure we’ll find a way to create artificial wombs in the next following 100 years.

This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.

Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.
