Is the Raspberry Pi OS still a 32bit OS?

Because many others are already 64bits, i switched to Ubuntu because of that and the fact that LXDE is almost unusable for me, performance wise is good but experience wise is strongly outdated.

I am using the 64bit Raspberry Pi os. Host: raspberrypi Kernel: 5.10.17-v8+ aarch64 bits: 64 Desktop: LXDE 0.10.0 Distro: Raspberry Pi OS 10 (buster) Yes it is a bit dated if you want newer apps since it is based on Debian Stable. My sources.list deb http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ buster main deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster non-free contrib main deb http://deb.debian.org/debian-security/ buster/updates main contrib non-free deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster-updates main contrib non-free deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster-backports main contrib non-free

I personally would love to see a Raspberry Pi OS version with GNOME for a future Raspberry Pi 5, it already works nice on the 4 although the Ubuntu’s implementation is quite bad.

At the very least i think they should replace LXDE with XFCE.

there is a 64 bit version available, but it only works on the Pi 4 models, which have a 64 bit SoC

LXDE it’s pretty good desktop. What you miss, the dark mode UIs?

No, the user experience is like 15 years behind modern desktops, the UI of many LXDE apps is quite outdated.

Once you try more modern desktops such as Cinnamon or GNOME it doesn’t feel comfortable. HiDPI support is also a problem.
