based just on the cops behavior without knowing where this was I would say it was town of about 50k, around 80% white, just outside a major city. Turns out it’s Keller, TX just outside the city of Ft. worth, population 47k and 74% white. Towns like this exist all over the US. See Keller’s property taxes dont go to pay for public housing or homeless shelters or even the police in nearby ft worth, they only pay for their “own” services. Keller already has plenty of schools, and clean roads, and there aren’t any homeless people in its borders but it does have a small crime problem almost 100% from nearby residents in Ft worth. So Keller takes all that spare property tax money from all those beautiful suburban mini mansions and gated communities, and spends it all on the police department, they have a small army to police a tiny town of mostly well off conservative white people who spend most of the workday in Ft worth anyway. All on the off chance they might bump into a criminal every month or so. Some local police budgets are so overflowing they buy military grade equipment like that APC just for fun

“Shimanek was demoted from sergeant to officer in September as a result of the arrest, though he could not comment further as it is the subject of a pending lawsuit.”

Shimanek is the cop who started this, and who pepper sprayed the dad.

"This is not Shimanek’s first offense at the Keller police department. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that in 2016, he “searched a woman’s home without permission and threatened to call Child Protective Services without just cause.” In 2018, he received a complaint for commenting about “women not carrying guns because they would not be able to protect the children during a school shooting.”

“The mayor declined to confirm the settlement amount was $200,000 but said the city itself would be limited to paying a $5,000 deductible. The Texas Municipal League, which insures cities, will pay the rest, he said.”

No one fired or charged, just some money paid out that will inevitably used to justify an even higher budget for the cops. The usual story.

Absolute disgrace. This guy is obviously an abusive domineering dickhead but that’s just the police standard frankly.
