After the fall of the USSR, most observers expected Cuba to follow in its wake. But the Cuban system has now lasted for 30 years since the Soviet collapse. To explain its persistence, we need to drop Cold War stereotypes and look at the Cuban experience in its own right.

      I like Jacobin. I would think their articles are in favor of socialist countries. Are they biased somehow?

        Well, I think you may be in for a rude awakening in this case…

        Generally speaking, they’re too pro-Democrat or reformist. Oh sure, they’ll have their articles that criticize certain aspects but for the most part they don’t really “rock the boat” too much. Their best articles are the guest authors, I would say.

    While it’s Jacobin, it’s a pretty good article overall. Really shows how central planning and lack of revisionism saved Cuba in the long run.

    That was an interesting read. Can anyone recommend some good videos/documentaries on life in Cuba?
