Of course some of us have already deleted our WhatsApp accounts, but I did actually backup a few of my chats, so I’ll be trying this out when it gets to Android.
Even if you are an iOS user who has deleted your WhatsApp account, this will still work for any chats that you did export.

Interesting that they released (by mistake, I suppose?) version 7.4 on the AppStore - and then they quickly released v7.4.1 with the same new features of 7.4, except for the import function. I think they messed up the release and decided to quickly fix it. As far as I know, the current version on the store doesn’t let you import your chats from WhatsApp/Line/KakaoTalk. It just has the other features mentioned in the changelog, which I guess are stable enough, but the import function still needs some testing
They released the Android public beta yesterday but it’s still not on the PlayStore, also still no blogpost on https://telegram.org/blog
Wow interesting. Thanks for letting us know. Yes last thing they want is broken imports.
And I see Signal has a similar option to import chats from WhatsApp.
Hmm, semantics. Signal doesn’t let you “import” your chats. Import as in: loading in your Signal chat all the past messages/medias history from WhatsApp (which is what Telegram 7.4 does). Signal provides a quick way to make your whatsapp people move over the new Signal chats. From this point of view, WhatsApp too gives you a way to move your Signal/Telegram chats over WhatsApp, because it lets you generate invite links too
OMG you are quite correct - I read it carefully now. Someone had replied to me wityh this saying Signal could do the same thing but you are correct, this is just inviting people over… OK cancel that idea then ;-)
