No words can fully describe what the excavation into the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor in 2005 have found. Portal, rift, and other names were used until the official designation of “Gateway” was selected. Regardless of what people called it, it is a portal-like device, approximately 8 meters in diameter, with an interesting property of being able to connect to other realities. It would take nearly another decade before means of controlling the device would be discovered. Even then, the mystery of the origin of the device still elude even the brightest mind.

Since the discovery of the method to control the Gateway, numerous probes and researchers have travel through the gate in study of alternate realities. Some of which were incomprehensible, others were virtually indistinguishable from our own reality, designated R-0. Yet, one would forever remembered as the place where the first interdimensional conflict take place, the Reality R-47.

R-47 is, in many aspect, similar to R-0. Planet Earth existed, so does human civilizations. The area around the gateway site could be easily mistaken for any tropical forest found in R-0’s Earth. Yet, the civilization that existed within R-47 resemble more of a primitive feudal society than a modern nation state. One aspect of this dimensions that’s notably different from R-0 is the existent of multiple elements that would be more at home in a fantasy novel than in the real world. Individual wielding magic-like power, or armed force employing domesticated flying reptilian creature resembling a dragon, are common place within this reality.

Before the incident, Chinese researcher had learned about, and located, 7 different states. Of which, 4 were friendly toward the Chinese expedition teams, 2 were openly unwelcome, and 1, known as the Zron, were completely mystery.

Located within a dense mountainous region beyond the vast forest that made up the majority of R-47 explored region, what the Zron civilization has once been is long debated. The area, even far beyond Zron’s city wall, is littered by numerous ruin, and sign of barbarism existed throughout the area. Their people, likewise, show sign that they were once a great nation that suffer some tragedy in the past. They were a powerful force, one that could potentially went up against all other 6 states combined, but focused inward, waging war against one another in some kind of perpetual power struggle. The Chinese expedition team of R-47 ensure to stay out of their way, save for one small observation outpost intended to observe the Zron civilization from distance.

But less than a year after their arrival in this reality, the Chinese expedition team one last communication from Zron observation outpost. Report from the outpost told that, for the first time in recorded history, factions and warlords, who have been fighting each other mere months ago, banded together under a mysterious ruler. Whether through military genius, causal intimidation, or political maneuvering, this ruler has won the devotion of the entire Zron civilization. Right after this news were sent, the outpost went silent.

A rescue team sent to the outpost reveal that, of the 5 personals stationed there, one, a security guard, was killed on site, while the other 4 personals, all civilian researcher, went missing and presumed taken back to the Zron.

Colonel Zhang Jiang, commander of the PLA detachment assigned to provide security for the expedition team quickly take stock of the situation. Mere minutes after the news were received, he ordered the entire detachment to assemble, while multiple drones were launched to perform recon mission. The PLA detachment were meant only to provide security for the expedition team, not to wage a war, that much is certain. All they have is about a dozen men, 2 Z-20 utility helicopters, and a single Z-19 light attack helicopter, meant primarily to do a quick aerial survey, and thus lacking much of their offensive armaments. However, it is clear a rescue mission has to be launched. As the civilian researchers evacuate back to their reality and after the drones located the location where the missing people were held, the order was given, and the flight of two Z-20 and a Z-19 launch a rescue mission to the heart of Zron…

So basically the anime Gate (isekai) but replace the JSDF with the PLA. Based.
