I like how everyone is talking about Kharkov offensive and conveniently forgot about the disastrous Kherson offensive.
I must criticize the Russian army for one thing, though. They made it too obvious that they never intended to hold either area in the first place. They are several report that Russian troop didn’t simply pack up and leave - they ALREADY packed up expecting to leave, and it wasn’t until the third day where someone point out that they should try to at least pretend to care about the territory.

Wishful hopeful thinking. They’ll handwave away and trivialize major calamities dealt to Ukraine by the Russians, while soyfacing to every tiny victories against Russia until their jaws fall off.
I was reading Pepe Escobar (iirc) saying that the Russian forces around Kharkov were actually Russian national guard, and aren’t trained to confront militaries. They were occupation police essentially, so they packed up and left when Ukraine advanced, apparently there was little fighting if any.
And Ukraine still lost about two battalions worth of soldiers through artillery strikes and air strikes. A very hollow victory.
Ukraine is like the 12 year old on Xbox Live who constantly says things that are edgy and cringe like threatening to come to other player’s homes and do certain things to their mother.
