    Gaming has always been influenced by gambling. A lot of video games have been made by pachinko/casino companies - I think Atari and Bandai Namco are primarily gambling companies if I’m not mistaken. But something about the mobile phones and how people’s accounts are already connected to their bank accounts.

      Kind of silly reference, but in the 90’s movie waynes world, they meet an executive that owns arcades. He talks about a video game where you literally can’t win, and kids just keep pumping quarters into the game thinking they’ll win eventually. That always stuck in my mind ever since, and I’ve never been a huge gamer and I never trusted free mobile games.

        Anyone who knows the history of video games knows there’s a huge casino machine maker to arcade machine maker pipeline.

          Apparently especially the Japanese companies. Which I find extremely interesting when you read about how the US used the Yakuza to undermine the Japanese left.
