It may be less clear cut than “Azerbaijan invaded Armenia” leave a comment if you have some insight.
The collapse of the Soviet Union truly was the greatest geopolitical disaster of our times.

There’s always a Rand Corp. paper, the mfs write policy, not just “research”.
These people are so evil it’s crazy. I remember just skimming one of their papers about the propped up government in Iraq and it talked about how some of the initial challenges came from not having any native arab speakers on board 💀.
Ah feck, I made a post just now bc I didn’t see yours.
Anyone know of some good sources for the context of this invasion?
The conflict is over Nagorno-Karabakh, it’s a border dispute over a multi ethnic region that has traded hands multiple times. This is another post-USSR conflict that is both aggravated by the West (Israel and Turkey are the most involved), and has a deep history. Azerbaijan now has the money and imperialist support to exercise their ethnic tensions with Armenia. The 2020 stint of this war was very one-sided as Azerbaijan had purchased really good drones from Israel.
Thank you 🐇
I assume Russia is an ally of Armenia then?
I think it’s more nuanced than that. someone else can chime in but my insight is that this region is absolutely critical for oil pipelines and Azerbaijan has a ton of oil which BP is deeply involved with.
Edit:
Edit 2: Maybe it is that simple lol

Lol just a guess but that is a funny find, like you said there’s usually a TINY bit of nuance there anyways tho. Edit: funnily enough I actually just guessed they were allies bc the Armenians were depicted as Chads in some shitty Russian movie I saw called “The Guardians” (an Avengers ripoff like 5 years after the original)
From what I’m learning, it seems as though Russia has been the primary mediator/peacekeeper in between the two. It would seem the simple answer is that one side is taking the opportunity to strike a militarily weaker rival while no-one is there to intervene.
Russia is formally an ally to Armenia, but has decent relationships with both I believe. Russia brought the 2020 stint to negotiations, they are both within Russia’s regional influence.
They are both allies of Russia, but I of course think Armenia is bigger one and should be helped as soon as shit in Ukraine ends if they can’t earlier. Russia also has bases in Armenia as far as I know and in Artsakh. Iran is also an ally of Armenia and is even ready to take on Azerbaijan as they said just last year.
Azerbaijan is now just a Turkish puppet and also supports Isn’t real, Russia should stop them already and liberate Nagorno-Karabakh. 🇦🇲
Very interesting insight - thanks for sharing!
Is this part of Erdogan’s what’s it called - his far right pan turkic movement which seems pretty reactionary?

Definitely. Erdogan is playing a dangerous game right now. He and the Saudi’s are (imo at least) really playing both sides off each other and it’s a delicate game
artsakh=armenia
Armenia has an ally in Russia, and huge expat/diaspora in the US which would oppose war, but Azerbaijan has oil to burn and has ties with western oil companies. Just hoping this doesn’t worsen. I’m not sure how Armenia would fare in a conflict with Azerbaijan.
Judging by how the Azeris try to stir up shit every couple months, I would say that probably Armenia is not in a good position to fight.
Armenia isn’t in a good position to fight given the state of their military and economy
It’s also one of NATO’s closest allies (because it’s pretty much a Turkish satellite), and a major Israeli ally.
Armenia is asking for CSTO to help with a diplomatic resolution and will not invoke article 4.
What’s your source on this? I need to update my sources on this region.
Armenian PM as relayed by ASB Mil.
Twitter is now saying the PM has invoked article 4 (Russians With Attitude, not sure how trustworthy they are) so wait for more info maybe x)

Here’s another update:

Doesn’t seem to be a very popular decision in Armenia
Word is, Nancy Pelosi is going to go to Armenia to “show her support”.
Are we sure Azerbaijan is in the wrong this time around? Pashinyan came to power as a result of a colour revolution, last I checked.
I’m glad you bring that up, I will bear that in mind. The type of people supporting Armenia makes me suspicious as well. Idk it seems complex so I won’t pass judgment.
If Russia is too tied up in Ukraine maybe Iran can step in and help somehow
