The higher the stage of socialist construction for achieving the independence of the masses reaches, the greater the challenge and resistance by the imperialists become.

As long as imperialism, whose inherent nature and means of existence is aggression and plunder, exists, the source of war cannot be rooted out, and antagonism and struggle between socialism, which aspires after independence and peace, and imperialism is unavoidable in the development of history.

Therefore, it is a crucial and vital requirement in achieving a steady development and prosperity of socialism that conditions and an environment that allow no aggressive threat be created; to this end, we should possess an absolute strength with which we can definitely overwhelm the enemy.

Our Republic, as a citadel of the anti-imperialist struggle and a fortress of socialism, resolutely promoted the construction of a self-reliant national defence capability according to its own timetable in the face of intervention and pressures by the hostile forces of all hues. By doing so, it put an end to the era when the US imperialists unilaterally imposed nuclear threat.

Dude, Kim has such a smooth voice! It’s like butter, whether you agree with him or not, you have to admit he sounds amazing. Videos of him talking are hard to come by in the West, but I highly recommend finding some!

I might be a bit naive but I’ve never understood why people accuse countries like China or the DPRK of not being socialist, when they very openly and frequently speak about being socialist and constructing socialism. I feel like, “If they weren’t really socialist, why would they keep up the lie for so long? Why won’t China just come out and say they’re capitalist? Why won’t the DPRK say they’re a centralised economy with a monarchy? It’s not like they’re losing anything by proclaiming they’re not socialist.”

Because they listen only to the Imperialists telling of their countries, and never what the socialist countries themselves say.

Some propagandized libs believe that socialism is good in theory, but that it has never existed, and that every socialist state that has ever existed wasn’t really socialist.

I’ve seen this nonsense on Reddit many times. They believe that the countries are claiming themselves socialist in order to appeal to the people but that in reality they are capitalist or full-on fascist.

It’s just a load of nonsense created by western propaganda.

They either think they’re lying (like those deceitful Asiatics always do) to gain power. Or they’re not socialist because they don’t meet the standards of me, a white guy, who those dirty sub-humans should listen to for I am their savior and I know better. Now where did I put those damn calipers…

To add to all these other responses, which are all mostly correct, racism also plays a part. I have a “friend” who is fairly left leaning but has some real BS takes on China because his brain is incapable of getting over the racism that’s been ingrained into it by a life of state propaganda. Thus all news of “China bad” is true because it allows him to continue to hate China. “I hate capitalism but also hate China so China isn’t real socialism is just shitty capitalism PRETENDING to be socialism and that’s why all these other leftists don’t hate China because they are being fooled by China saying it’s socialist.”

I’ve talked to people who talked to me like that before. No matter how much proof you present them, they won’t get over it. At most they’ll start to think that you’re insane/brainwashed by CeCePe 1984 State propaganda or something. It’s “China bad”-syndrome.

“Our generation will not pursue an immediately visible improved environment for the economic life at the cost of giving up the nuclear weapons, which guarantee the security of the government of our Republic and the coming generations, to find our own comfort and to escape today’s difficulties unable to bear the enemy’s deceitful preaching and tenacious pressure, nor will we change our choice even if it would mean experiencing great difficulties.”

I found this quote really interesting in its honesty. If I am interpreting correctly, it seems as if he is acknowledging that capitulation to imperialist forces would likely lead to a better standard of living for many Korean people in the short term with better access to foreign consumer goods and foodstuffs, but that by looking at history we can clearly see that these boons (from things like IMF loans and western “aid”) do not last long and that austerity and defenselessness would ultimately destroy Korea as capitulation and collaboration have done so effectively in the past to other socialist nations. It reminds me of the Sankara quote about aid,

“Those who come with wheat, millet, corn or milk, they are not helping us. Those who really want to help us can give us ploughs, tractors, fertilizer, insecticide, watering cans, drills, dams. That is how we would define food aid.”

insofar as Chairman Kim goes on to elaborate that it will be the Korean people determining Korea’s destiny, and not conditional so-called aid from the imperialists. Brilliant speech.
