Indeed, they’re basically coercing people into killing themselves. A really clear way to say that if you can’t be effectively exploited for profit then you should just die.
It’s incredibly sinister because it’s put behind several layers of bureaucracy and official doctor-ey bullshit in such a way that millions of people just completely accept it as somehow “kind” to have this option.
The nazis did this shit but because it was clearly out in the open they had intense and violent opposition from the communists. This method is incredibly effective at just… Hiding it away. And making people shrug about it.
Right there in the background there is just a state sanctioned mass execution machine for the poor, disabled and otherwise impaired and everyone does not give a fuck because it’s called a bunch of nice names and hedged within layers and layers of abstraction.
