I try to use Open Source Android apps whereever I can. F-Droid is a community-maintained software repository which contains only free software apps. This posts describes my favorite F-Droid apps. App

Old, but mentions a few apps that I didn’t know about.

I feel like such a noob. I didn’t know you could install apps without the playstore unless you were using something like Microsoft App Center.

Welcome to the F-Droid users world ! :-) F-Droid is more than just an alternative Play Store. Its volunteers focus on open source and privacy. For example the Telegram version in F-Droid is modified to be able to fit in with F-Droid. Also, sometimes apps on F-Droid are for free, while the same apps on Google Play Store one will have to pay. And some one made a web search for F-Droid : https://fossdroid.com/

for everything else, there’s: https://www.apkmirror.com
all apps are verified.
fdroid covers 95% of my needs.

There’s a whole world of privacy-related things possible on Android! F-Droid, while extremely important, is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to protecting your privacy on Android.

Check out ‘Scrambled Exif’ … erases info from photos before you share them

  • audio recorder (both are great)
  • birthdaydroid : offline birthday reminder, works reaaly well
  • Navi : download manager
  • drowser : (root) choose which apps you don’t want running in the background.
  • FairEmail : great K9-mail alternative. Instant email reception. K9 is great too
  • gelli : music player for jellyfin! (based on phonograph)
  • newpipe also exists with sponsorblock! Not on fdroid yet, there’s a build on the github
  • old version of quicklyrics, still the best lyrics app imo
  • shattered pixel dungeon : best game, keeps getting better
  • oandbackupX, titanium backup alternative : development has started again and a lot has changed.

To mention just a few

I’m sorry but who names their app “QuickDic” lol

Good list. Markor is one of the best apps for android hands down, and its FOSS so its really great. We’d been needing a good markdown editor badly, and markor does that and more.

OSM is better in some places than others, but its a great one too. I’ll have to try out GitNex, I’ve started to use codeberg now too, and it should be able to connect with it.

Nice that you’re using Codeberg. I read this yesterday, about making static pages : https://floss.social/@hjacobs/105063456343202697

ImagePipe : This app reduces image size by changing the resolution and quality of the image. It also removes exif data before sending the image. The modified image is saved in a separate folder in jpeg format. The original image remains unchanged.
