Yeah, this companies are in such a position of power that any mild attempt at regulation will only strengthen their position… only brutal actions would make any positive change.

That is an interesting idea. I would go further and ban all advertising… nothing ever good comes from it.

By advertising I mean unsolicited messaging. You should be able to “advertise” in places that are built for this purpose so if I need to find a company that does X I go there and search for company that does X. But I don’t want companies to push stuff on me as they do today. Build hype and get people to behave irrationally. So much resources wasted on marketing and production of products and services that nobody wanted.
