Just a note tho, that’s from 2005, 17 years ago. He didn’t even come onto the world stage until 2013.

Valid point and I thank you for making it. That being said, I’ve become so disappointed with Greenwald myself over his negative views on COVID containment and particularly have noticed a pointed critique of him coming from Brazilian comrades (Brasilwire has coverage on him, FAIR amplified some of it this year; his husband is a Brazilian politician).

      • He had a lot of shit takes recently about Brazilian politics. He defended a podcaster that said Nazis should have free speech and be allowed to have a party (Nazi parties are illegal in Brazil) because “muh freeeze peach”. People called him out and he said he was a jew etc etc.

I try not to pay much attention to him. Didn’t he literally just get lucky with Wikileaks stuff?

The Intercept is ok every now and then. I stopped reading it a while back though, there are much better outlets.

What was wrong with the WikiLeaks thing then? I’m not sure I follow you here

              • He explains the reason for this in his book. If I’m not mistaken, they were running out of time and it was just a matter of time before the NSA identified him as the leaker and go after him. He tried to leave to Ecuador and needed to fly to Russia first but his passport was cancelled and now he is stuck in Russia.

Since he didn’t want to leak the actual programs and technical things to Russia, he destroyed the encripted files

I understand what Snowden did with the information and while I don’t agree with it he probably made the best choice for himself in a tough moment.

What bothers me is that the journalists (Greenwald, Poitras, MacAskill) had the whole treasure trove, and sat on it until intelligence and/or capitalists got to them and made sure the rest of the files would never be published.

        • Snowden choose to Glenn bc of his coverage of the war on terror if Im not mistaken. That said, Snowden is not really a leftist either, in his book he claims that China was doing the same thing the NSA was doing for example (he was talking about the great firewall)
