a few days back, the libretro github was hacked. all their repos were overwritten, issues and PRs all closed, etc. github restored access to the owners, but said they were unable to fix any of the damage if you're using github, you need to have a backup of ***everything*** https://twitter.com/libretro/status/1295181352426516480

Does anyone know a good way to backup issues and PRs from github?

Ya we need this badly. Losing the issues and PRs would be terrible.

I don’t think there’s an alternative today.

The best option I can see, is to invest in things like sourcehut, which is FOSS, you can use the hosted version or host yourself.

There’s a tracker and a git repository, and is built upon the idea of email, which is distributed and a open protocol by design.

I can’t “unsee” how Github/Gitlab are just shitty software after using sourcehut for almost a year now

Needing to keep local backups of your online content? What a novel and new concept. Oh wait, it’s not.

If you don’t take daily/hourly/whateverly local backups of whatever vital things you have online and expect whoever is hosting it to be 100% reliable in restoring that content, you have serious issues. This shouldn’t be news at all, beyond “libretro git got hacked, they’re fine now”.

Whenever I stumble upon a nice project, I instantly clone it into ~/sources and run a script to archive into a spare HD
