Annoyed? Why would I be annoyed by a captcha that gets in my face every 5 minutes? I’m FINE.
Without vpn/tor/etc

Some ISPs recycle the same set of ip addresses to certain territories and maintain assigned to some routers a lot of time (an entire month) which could finish being blacklisted if one of the users started to make bad practices online.
I can say even more, I have private (gray) IP address so when somebody make something bad from this ip it affected at all users

Interesting. I also use a VPN, but get the captcha almost immediately. Do you use a commercial VPN solution like Nord or Mullvad, or did you set up your own VPN service?

Huh. So am I, except I’m using their Swedish servers. At this point I’ve more or less decided to switch engines, but I might try Mullvad’s Dutch servers just to see if it makes a difference with Startpage.

Just one. The anonymizer is set to Yes. I’m assuming the red dot next to it indicates an issue. Other than that, my IP seems to be fine. My disguise is at 100%, in fact, whatever that means.
thats impressive. your original point then about a privacy search engine not serving private users is amplified, since you don’t have some other flag.
Agreed, as a privacy-oriented user I no longer feel catered to by startpage. I’m going to keep persevering for another day or two, but if the captchas keep popping up, I am switching to something else like Searx.
I wonder if this has anything to do with things like searx
Never happened to me yet. Most always I’m under a VPN
