I just don’t understand why the average person, in Europe, wouldn’t invest in one air conditioning window unit. From what I’ve read, only 3% of the population on Europe has air conditioning.

Let me provide an example of this mind boggling lunacy. I live in Maine USA and I’ve heard so many people say that ‘Maine-uhs’ don’t need air conditioning because it rarely ever gets hot enough to warrant it.

News flash! It does get hot enough to warrant air conditioning. This is especially so for the elderly and persons with pre-existing conditions. In my family’s case, the past week has seen temperatures in the 90s during the day with no real relief in overnight temps to cool things off enough. Could we do without our air conditioning units? Yes, because we are young and healthy enough to handle it without the threat of death.

However, having our three air conditioning window units makes our lives so much more enjoyable when it gets very hot here. Furthermore, our AC units are incredibly efficient and do NOT increase our electric bill to the point of not being able to run them.

The same type of lunacy happens here in the USA where people continue to live in the flood zones of the Mississippi River. I’ve seen so many interviews of these people losing everything to flooding only to return to those exact places and rebuild. Their reasoning is because “It’s home”.
