I have a couple of private repos on gitlab. They are communist books in markdown, and one of them is protected by copyright because it is fairly new (2014).
Are there any hosts where I can upload them publicly without the fear of takedowns? The repos aren’t popular or anything, so I feel even if I make them public on Gitlab nothing will happen. Still I don’t wanna take chances.
So any tips are appreciated.
Self-hosting a Gitea instance on a VPS, and just ensure it’s cloned locally (offline) so you have a backup in the extremely unlikely chance of issues.
Self hosted gitea is the only one that you’re gonna be 100% safe with, but you’re probably fine on gitlab.
You’re not 100% safe there either, your ISP can be DMCA’d too.
I suppose you can try alternative ways like from the folks at c/IPFS http://docs.ipfs.io.ipns.localhost:8080/how-to/host-git-style-repo But obviously, this might be a bit disruptive with most users who aren’t used to it.
