Forgive my ignorance for not understanding if the algorithm in the Doc applies to the Hot section for new posts as well (also for not really understanding the algorithm)

The algorithm in the docs assigns the posts a number and then the posts are sorted on the basis of that number.
As for the algorithm itself, I can’t explain it because I haven’t read it yet but it takes into account things like how new the post is, how many upvotes it has, when the upvotes were received among other things. I don’t know if it looks at the comment numbers.
