I would say OpenShot and kdenlive are targeting slightly different groups of users, with OpenShot being the easiest editor to just pick up and use, and kdenlive requiring a bit more effort to learn. This ease of use aspect is often what the popularity on places like alternativeto boils down to.

How is to compared to kdenlive

From my limited experience with both programs, kdenlive seems to be the more useful one for now. Olive looks incredibly promising, it’s way faster than kdenlive and the interface remids of professional editors like adobe premiere, but it’s still too unstable and lacks many basic features.

I haven’t used openshot but I went from 0 to usable in kdenlive in like an hour. It’s really intuitive and simple to use.

Thanks for linking this, I’ve been looking for a decent open source video editor for a while. Olive looks like it just works!
