Our history classes are one the one hand teaching us that slavery was somewhat bad (because we can’t be too negative off course) and on the other hand telling us we should feel some pride for the East- and West-Indian Company. Oh and the Indonesian Independence War was a ‘police action’.

    It’s a scam.

And most bizarre of all, half the country enjoys masquerading around in Blackface every Sinterklaas, as if exploiting and colonizing Afro-Caribbeans wasn’t bad enough, they also need to parade around a racist caricature for the rest of time apparently.

That’s Belgium, and it all fairness its got nothing to do with what happened in the Congo, its related to a story from the local folklore about a hero who cuts off the hand from a giant.

Yeesh. Still problematic, just in a different way. Stories of Giants is actually some really ancient racism. And of course they are always the villain.

The recent book “The Jakarta Method” digs in to the very successful anti-communism efforts of the US in Indonesia and Brazil.

      • Yes but it gotten better since, the previous president ignore west papuan problem and left them illiterate and stupid, australia trying to take the chance to separate papua from indonesia because there is so much natural resource there, but since 2017 election, the latest president is trying to take the heart of papua so the central government really took attention to this.

That rhetoric is mainly pushed by australian neocons that want to make it their neocolony as papua is rich in resources.

Yeah, i think thats the point, but there is a twist, people mistaken that the million people have been killed in 1965 was the regular people by the Communist Party/PKI.

Not only that, the worker organization and the socialist organization really like to Revolt by Peace(Reform) because of the red scare or reactionary, with that, i dont think they will go anywhere.

Its nice to meet indonesian comrade here.
