Let’s take an extra step forward to create a private, free, and healthy internet, and software that you can trust.
We remove proprietary code from FOSS projects.
Too many projects that claim to be a bastion of privacy have been overtaken by the influence of corporations.
The whole idea of FOSS is being torn apart by companies who don’t have our best interests at heart.
Just to get it clear for myself how strict we’re going to be with degoogling and all. The fact that codeberg is written in the Go Language, which is created by Google, does not go against ReverseEagle?
I don’t think it makes sense to dismiss open source projects because of the language they are written in. By that logic you couldn’t use Linux either because lots of big companies contribute to it.
I don’t know if it makes sense. I’d have expected some uproar about it if it would be the case, but I don’t exclude the possibility of a Go compiler to check in with Google when compiling and building. So yeah, if it doesn’t do that, we don’t have to dismiss projects in Go, but if it is, I definitely think we should dismiss projects build in Go. But I haven’t checked yet (not sure how I can do that) so at the moment I don’t know.

What about using Pagure? We could use the public instance https://pagure.io or host it on a own server as it’s open source and written in Python. I’m not a big fan of the bloated Gitlab software and as far as I know, they get huge donations from Google so they’re more or less dependent on them and won’t degoogle.

I like the new website but at the bottom you link to GitLab. This is not a good idea as Gitlab.com is hosted on Google Cloud. Another bad thing is Github by Micro$oft but as we’re not against Micro$oft here, that’s maybe acceptable. GitLab however should be a strict no-go for a project like this.
