I use nextcloud personally, not the fastest (thats on me though not the service) but its self hosted and I can add as much storage as I need. Personally I don’t use cloud storage for storing most things just a couple backups and sharing files so it does just fine for me.

I use nextcloud, for a lot more than sharing files; I keep my bookmarks and grocery lists on it, use it as a webmail client, and I wrote an add on to remote control lights in my house. If you just want to share files, especially big ones, syncthing is great, and doesn’t take up any space on a server.
How it is the webmail? Is it hard/easy to setup? I’m amazed by NextCloud features, but I’m also scared to use it, since I’m not an IT professional.

Thanks a lot! I’ll look into Yunohost. Seems rather interesting and promising for folks like me, without IT background.
It’s truly the most straightforward path to self hosting, and can let you sample a whole buffet of options. One call out, though, is that it often doesn’t have the absolute newest versions of things, which is probably not a problem unless you’re obsessively following feature releases…but which is absolutely disqualifying if you are . :winking face with tongue:
Yeah, I don’t think that will be an issue for me, since I’d be dipping my feet into the whole thing for now. I’ll have to wait until I have a computer connected by cable to the router, though, because right now I’m just with a laptop :grimacing face:
Some people think VPSes (digital ocean, EC2, w/e) don’t count as self-hosting but I think it’s a great way to get started and it does move your data more under your control. Raspberry pis are also great tho so you’ve got options!
I only miss some money! lol But things are turning around, so I think I’ll be able to do it not too long from now :) Thanks for the help!
As far I use firefox, I would also suggest http://send.firefox.com/

Torrents or syncthing.
