Vivaldi is a very neat looking browser, and I appreciate the story behind it as well. An open source fan and geek friend of mine likes Vivaldi browser a lot. However Vivaldi is not 100% open source, and uses Chromium under the hood. Personally I think that using any Chromium based browser will increasingly give Google more power to make big changes in how web users will have to use large parts of the Internet in the future (Think about the increase of use of Google’s AMP pages, and about website developers who make website only work with Chromium based browsers, leaving Firefox users and other browser users in the cold). Therefore I prefer to use Firefox and other (non Chromium/Chrome) browsers, with the hope to fight for a more open and flexible Internet for all users.

Any clue if qutebrowser has this same issue?

Good question. Does https://qutebrowser.org/doc/faq.html have an answer ?

Yeah sadly

qutebrowser uses Qt and QtWebEngine by default (and supports QtWebKit optionally). QtWebEngine is based on Google’s Chromium.
