I don’t know if it’s really necessary now the vaccines are widely available.
Vaccines failed to arrest the pandemic in western countries, and are much less effective against the variants. For example, 38% of all of Canada’s reported COVID hospitalizations to date, 28% of reported ICU admissions of the entire epidemic, and 23% of total reported epidemic deaths all happened in the last 4 months. This is after most people in Canada have been vaccinated.

That’s the problem with covid, it triggers a pretty wide rang of reactions from people. Most people end up being fine, but some end up with chronic problems. It’s also possible to catch covid multiple times, and each time there’s a chance that you’ll get a bad reaction. While this problem might not be evident at individual level, it does become a problem for the society as a whole. You end up with less people being able to fully participate in the workforce, and more people needing additional healthcare.
