Probably the most exciting development in a while.
Yes it is. The plan to use it as the place to build Mars missions and maybe the base for asteroid mining is just as exciting.
For sure, if we manage to actually build out an industrial base on the moon where we start local manufacturing that opens up incredible possibilities. The main problem we have right now is how expensive and dangerous it is to launch stuff from Earth. Moon makes this much easier since there’s low gravity and no atmosphere. Also means we could start using stuff like nuclear powered space craft since there’s no real worry about environmental pollution. Once bootstrapped, this kind of a colony could start expanding pretty rapidly, and might even become self sufficient creating a bulwark against extinction.
