Easy enough to setup a fake college and funnel immigrants through it, ask Trump he did it for years.

I 10,000% guarantee this would not be enacted by a Trump presidency. Worst, if some for of it was put forward it would have specific conditions limiting which country of origin this would apply to (surprise surprise: white ones).

Please don’t get lured by the broken clock phenomenon…

Last time, they avoided having the platform contradict Trump by not adopting a platform. I expect this time to be no different.

The upside of having no real stances is you can throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks towards your benefit.

Also an upside of never implementing what you promised it doesn’t matter what you said last.

Dude I don’t think even the democrats would float this sort of plan. It’s one of those weird moments between planning the three stooges reich where he just glomms onto some idea that is actually super progressive without knowing it. Ultimately trump is apolitical personally I think—he acts based on narcissistic self interest, which is why it’s possible for weird shit like this to happen. He also just takes notes from whatever whackos are around that day, so you can be sure that any actual good or progressive ideas will get removed from the platform by one of the far right grifters he has in perpetual orbit, but still amusing to see.

The democrats would say they wanted to do this, then complain they’re not allowed to, and then produce a plan that provides green cards to foreign grads if they agree to live in an underserved neighborhood for 5 years, have a specific blood type, and complete a post-secondary degree within 5 years with the intention of working in green energy development after. Like some caveated-to-hell means tested crap that lets them say they tried, while effectively making it near-impossible.

We all know that the hate for Mexico is nonsense. They aren’t coming over the border and stealing highly coveted jobs. The jobs that have actually been taken by immigrants are largely middle class jobs that require degrees, things like IT and medicine.

In part, this has been fine. It drives the salaries down a bit because they’re willing to accept less to move to the country and even the lower salary is still much more than they would make at home. Companies win because there weren’t enough qualified people to go around for a while, so immigration closes the gaps.

This is pure conservatism though. Allow foreigners to come study here in unlimited numbers, then let them stay to take middle class jobs at lower salaries in these non-union industries. It’s like outsourcing but everyone is in the same time zone and they won’t resist your return-to-office mandate.

I despise Trump with every fiber of my being but I agree with the spirit of this. We need to make it easier for legal immigrants. I would be highly suspicious of a Trump administration’s implementation of this policy, though. He makes everything about him.

I have no idea why the USA spends money on training international students until they get their PhD and then doesn’t automatically give them permanent residency. One guy I know came from Iran to get his physics PhD and although he has managed to stay in the USA with a work visa, by default the USA would have sent him back to Iran!

Foreign students pay full tuition, with no state contribution. Lots of universities have increased foreign admissions specifically to address declining state allocations. Science grad schools, where grants pay the student’s tuition & stipend are a different question, but a lot of funding mechanisms, including some US gov’t, bar foreign nationals.

The whole pool of foreign students are great, though: top students in their home country, generally from families wealthy in their home country, highly motivated & ambitious. Many/most of them seek college in the US hoping it will be a stepping stone to employment and permanent residence. I can understand why even a xenophobe like Trump would make an exception for students.

Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said that graduates would be screened “to exclude all communists, radical Islamists, Hamas supporters, America haters and public charges.”

Doesn’t matter, that just means “we’ll exclude all non-white, non-Christian Europeans who have ever said anything remotely critical of Donald Trump in their time on the internet.”

Not a bad idea if you limited it to properly accredited schools. I’ll put this in the “buy Greenland” category of Trump ideas, oddly appealing.

    [off topic]

Right after absolutely nothing happened at Tianinmen Square 06/04/1989 someone suggested that all Chinese students in the US be given Green Cards.

    Guess who opposed that?

I seem to recall like 20 years ago even there was an issue in that state colleges make more from out of state students so are sorta incentivized to have more of them. I assume this is to pump up fake colleges like a reboot of trump university

I wonder what scam he has in mind to gain money or power through this, at the expense of everyone else in the country.
