Please correct me if I’m wrong, as my knowledge of Hong Kong is only as old as watching the Hong Kong riots unfold.

Carrie Lam states that the building of new homes in the New Territories, the northern half of Hong Kong is being blocked by anti-China forces.

If I stand correct, the northern half of the New Territories, so the Northern quarter of Hong Kong, closest to mainland China, was the only part were the majority were against the both the riots and protests, causing rioters to visit these areas to harass it’s citizens.
So the general rule is, the more north you go, the more pro-mainland China Hong Kong becomes.

This quarter isn’t as densily populated as the rest of the island and it’s roads are not connected to the mainland, which makes it somewhat of a virtual wall between the mainland and Hong Kong.
While at first this would have been made difficult for mainlanders to seek out Hong Kong and beyond, once Shenzhen started to close in on Hong Kong economically, the virtual wall has lately become a way for pan-democrats to keep Hong Kongers ignorant of mainland China’s success.
