I’m quite intrigued by the game. Anyone got an opinion if this bundle has the “must have” books for the game or is it mostly filler stuff?
There’s a lot of extra but it’s not necessarily filler. It would all depend on whether you were going to run your game in the Aventuria world and/or wanted the Theater Knights campaign. It depends on how much of the published stuff you want to run.
I didn’t get it because it has a reputation of being extremely crunchy. So maybe if you like that level of crunch you should probably get it. I hear the world building is pretty good.
For me, it depends on where the crunch is… like HERO is pretty crunchy but it’s very front-loaded and it’s pretty smooth during the play. Also it’s a bit different these days because I play most of my games through Foundry VTT which takes care of a lot of crunch if the support is good… That said, I’m leaning toward more narrative systems these days, not because of lack of crunch but because I think they make better use of TTRPGs’ advantages (over say computer rpgs) and because it’s easier to model characters and stories in them. I think I’d really like a narrative crunchy game :D
I’ve only played the Dutch translations, so it could be a problem with localisation; but 5th edition felt really horribly made in my opinion. I’ve played both 3rd and 5th Edition of DSA (5th edition is what’s in this bundle), and I would never touch 5th edition again if given the choice.
That said, if you do want to try 5th edition, this collection looks very decent, has all the books I played with in Dutch, and more.
Yeah, translations are bit of a double edged sword… if they’re well made they are awesome… but if they’re poorly made they can ruin the whole experience. Anyway, thanks for the input!
