Thanks for replying. I’ve tried to copy photos so I know what you mean about mixing colors. I imagine I would have a very difficult time trying to copy brushstrokes. At the moment I’m working on a piece where I’m trying to emulate the spirit of the fauvist style, but I don’t think I have the patience to copy anyone closely. I know it’s a valuable practice, and you’re doing great.

Its extremely challenging, but you learn alot from doing it. Its also important to choose only 1 or 2 artists and stick to them and try to learn their style. Ive landed on Edgar Payne and Monet after being a life long Van Gogh stan. Its really useful in developing your own style by blending 2 different masters together. I highly recommend checking out the Paint Coach on YouTube he has a bunch of great videos that really break down the process of composition and getting your values right. Either way Happy Painting! Cant wait to see more of your works!
