Yeah i don’t like the contempt behind calling people “normies”. It goes to great lengths to erase personal experiences and suffering. Many people who get called “normies” are also neurodivergent and very much uneased by some situations. It’s not a clear binary…

Afaik some people assume others are normies as long as they’re able to engage in some form of social interactions with normies. But your special ways aren’t written on your forehead and may arise in specific circumstances. My point was that there’s not as many “normies” as we think and most of us weirdos get better at pretending to fit in (or actually fitting in) over the years, something the “normie” binary doesn’t account for.

I usually see it as an ironical sort of insult.

I see it as implied that “even” normies have their own individuality. Using the term simply signals that you perceive someone as part of a bigger group of people who are much alike with regards to a certain aspect you want to stress.

I mostly agree, since when is being normal an insult, lol. One can diverge positively, negatively or neutrally from the average on any topic. Should people want to fit in the average, depends on the topic, but is it an insult tho… it’s like the word mainstream in some ways. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s not, sometimes it has no value judgement. Regardless, words are words, and if people use it as an insult it will be an insult, and usually it’s best to avoid inflammatory language. Or try and reclaim positive connotations.
