I mean it was, even in the revised ST lore that do include USSR destruction it was one of the first true AI, of soviet design (controlling presumably Russian oribital defence and strike system), that saved humanity in WW3 by not using nukes against population centers and shooting down as much of other countries nukes that did targeted civilian targets, it even sacrificed itself in the process.
