Original OP comment

She likely was taken into questioning about an affair with a high-ranking official and placed under house arrest.

This according to US media sources means:

  1. She disappeared.
  2. She was sexually abused by the high-ranking official.

…and therefore the olympics need to boycotted.

Since little information has been released, I can only say that it’s very likely that China doesn’t allow mob justice via Weibo to occur, especially not as it concerns a retired high-ranking official.

When you have been wronged in any shape or form, please report this to the police. Do not try to solve your issues by the public opinion of social media. Those last two sentences are directed to everyone.

How would this be a fake and why would anyone choose a tennis player to construct a scandal about?

It’s fake because being taken into police custody does not equal a disappearance.
And suggestions of sexual abuse simply because sex has taken place is libellous.

Neither is also is grounds for an Olympics boycot.

I’ll look into it. I jumped to conclusions thinking this was a carbon-copy of the Jack Ma and Fan BingBing event.

Alright. I seem to have jumped to conclusions here and have changed my main message accordingly. I simply assumed it was something less serious that she posted.

So I’m going to say that she’s likely placed under house arrest like Jack Ma and Fan BingBing.
If that’s something very different from police custody, let me know.

It is different, but not that different in the eyes of western media. The narrative is not about what exactly happened to her, it’s about painting PRC in this negative light. The conclusion you jumped to was that she was accosted by authorities in any way. You could’ve said she was under house arrest from the beginning and I still would’ve asked you the same question because my problem with your assessment was that it seemed to come from a very racist western media inspired lens where you assume coercion without simply waiting for more info. There was no evidence whatsoever of the sort happening and Peng was seen in public and doing interviews over the past month.
