Removed Comment To combine a few: we are overestimating the probability of intelligent life. Earth like planets are not in particularly short supply, but conditions have to be just right. A slight change here or there could mean humans never wound up with intelligence or hit some different local maximum in evolution. We make certain assumptions about what activity would look like, assumptions that might not even hold for much of our own activity. SETI might well be barking up the wrong tree. Distances are vast. If someone is monitoring our radio waves, only a tiny portion of the galaxy will see it, out to around 150 light years. And that is assuming they know what they are looking at. We invented certain ways to encode information that may sound like nonsense. This also means that unless there is faster than light travel, any civilization may not even be near us. For perspective, human civilization is just 12,000 years old while the Milky Way is 105,000 light years across and Andromeda is 2.5 million light years away. The universe isn't all that old. We think on human time-frames, but on universe time-frames we are near the beginning. Multiply all these factors together and I think the paradox is not a paradox at all. We are expecting too much too soon. by @pingveno

Removed Comment Guess that best is a matter of taste. For example the front-end part, Lemmy now has [phpBB](https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmyBB) front-end for those who like that. For Mastodon there is [Pinafore](https://github.com/nolanlawson/pinafore) and [Halcyon](https://notabug.org/halcyon-suite/halcyon). by serenity

Removed Comment The rules could be written more clearly. For someone who doesn't already know why the rules are like that, it's not that easy to understand it from just reading the rules. People are used to using poll options that you can click, and a statistic that is being displayed. Optimally create a demo post with answers that the rules can link to for visual explanation. by @Stoned_Ape

Removed Comment Fully agree with you. If the wars would be waged just by robots on robots, it could be even easier waged by honour duels or sport matches. The goal is always either force the enemy to something or annihilate them. And the enemy are always humans. Beside, to OP: why even clone wars, the very idea of clone army is rather unfeasible compared to robots in similarly technically advanced society needed to produce a viable clone army. I guess the wars of future would be waged by majorily automated armies but there is no way to completely eliminate humans from warfare. Fun thought is that fully automated warfare would mean also having at least ability to fully automate production. By Marx prediction, it is the point in which capitalism decays by itself. by @PolandIsAStateOfMind

Removed Comment Except killing robots won't get the desired effect. The biggest point of war is to either cause enough suffering that the other side complies with your demands if done for economic purposes, or if for conquest, wipe out enough of the existing population to make colonising them easier, while terrifying the rest of the population such that they have no choice but to work for you. Robots don't suffer, so killing them do not accomplish the goals of a war. Granted, destroying a fleet of drones can certaobly cause suffering in the form of paychological effects, discouraging the other side, making them feel unsafe, and also actually reducing their ability to defend and attack. Robots are a line of defence for humans in a war, like a wall protecting a city. But like a wall, it's liable to falling, and once that happens, the slaughtering of flesh and blood will inevitably ensue the same as ancient times. Even in wars of liberation from oppressers, like socialist revolution, this holds true. In that case, the target are the oppressing class like the bourgeoisie, or a monarch and his nobles. A revolution succeeds by either killing off the oppressing class such until there is no one physically standing to resist and the revolutionaries can take control, or, much more commonly, by causing sufficient suffering in the oppressors such that they submit to the revolutionaries and have no choice but to allow them to take control. It's for this reason I believe that while robots will be a staple in war, the goal at that point will be to use your own robots to destroy the opposing fleet, at which point you will be free to inflict suffering on your true target, the humans. by Marxism-Fennekinism

Removed Comment While that's true, machines are increasingly becoming better at doing these things than humans. One of the big developments in the war in Ukraine was the use of drones by Russia to attack Ukrainian infrastructure. These drones are cheap and easy to mass produce while jet fighters cost millions of dollars each and require pilots with years of training to use effectively. As tech keeps getting better we'll start seeing Boston Dynamics style robots on the battlefield as well I imagine. Robots are simply cheaper than humans at the end of the day. Also, you could download everything they learn and each new robot will inherit the skills of the previous ones. This is far more effective than training new soldiers. I fully expect that ever more sophisticated drones are going to be the future of warfare assuming we don't nuke ourselves out of existence of course. by ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

Removed Comment I tend to stick with RaspiOS, it just works well and is based on Debian. I use the light version and install whatever I need. For desktop I us XFCE with I3 window manager, I prefer tiling WMs, but the Raspi desktop is also nice, as is pure XFCE. KDE and Gnome may be a bit resource intensive, but work if you have the RPI4 with 8GB RAM. If I set up another RPI4 server, I may try Rocky Linux, which is based on Red Hat. by Johnny Mojo

Removed Comment As of the time of this reply, this post has the most upvotes in this thread but the mods removed it. Maybe the mods should consider changing the rules of /c/polls to allow for multiple answers in a single post, or make the rules more visible on mobile because I see that the mods frequently remove comments on /c/polls posts. Not claiming maliciousness by the mods, just posting my personal opinion that I'm not a fan of the posting requirements that result in my comments being deleted. by @beansniffer
