All the stuff that is fucked up runs on lithium ion batteries. Way more stuff runs on batteries in general. The increased demand is just mining in places that can’t resist or control the effects of suddenly being the focus of global capital. Lithium ion batteries fail in dangerous ways. They’re expensive to recycle.
Most of the stuff that we look at and think “what a convenient piece of technology, too bad it’s actively harming me” either are only able to exist because of the development of lithium ion batteries or were directly precipitated by stuff that was.
Not tedposting, but if there was one “technological” development I could delete from history it would 100% be the lithium ion battery.
