I noticed this as well, but it also made me reflect on why I even started adding “reddit” to my searches.

It’s kind of crazy how bad most other results are. They are almost universally some kind of sponsored ad or blog content written by the marketing department of some brand. It’s strangely difficult to find the information you are looking for on google these days.

Reddit was a band-aid but the larger issue is more in how search became an outlet for ads. Modern billboards on the information superhighway.

I’m not sure if there’s a proper solution anymore.

I don’t think it’s just search. It’s pretty much the entire internet. Reddit is just one of the last places where the people posting aren’t trying to monetize themselves. I mean, what else are you hoping for? Some guy’s self-hosted blog? Those are all dead or monetized. A news org? Even the niche ones have sold out to the very corporations that they’re supposed to cover and review. Same with pretty much every social media influencer and personality.

Reddit has held out because no single person can gain enough inertia and influence to be worth buying out (astroturfing bots on the other hand…) The rest of the internet is just trying to sell you shit.
