Friends and family instant messaging: XMPP (Look into Movim or Conversations as clients) Public channels for projects: modern IRC or Matrix. But XMPP can do it also Voice chat: Mumble Video group chat: Jitsi Meet. Nextcloud Talk is also ok if you run a Nextcloud instance.
So security LARPing to distract from the fact that a centralized service can never by fully private. Thanks, but no thanks!
What alternative do you recommend?
Depends on what you primarily use chat for.
Friends and family instant messaging: XMPP (Look into Movim or Conversations as clients)
Public channels for projects: modern IRC or Matrix. But XMPP can do it also
Voice chat: Mumble
Video group chat: Jitsi Meet.
Nextcloud Talk is also ok if you run a Nextcloud instance.
