INB4 “nooo our religious figure has no gender!!!” well if you uniformly portray them as male even though they have no gender, that’s still a problem. Case in point, how the Christian god has no gender but is always called “he” (and equivalent on other languages with gendered pronouns) and is always drawn as a man.

    There’s a reason they are all witches - this is how western society rewrote history whenever they encountered a goddess. It was a technique of erasure, not that people never revered women.

    As to your point about referring to god as a he, the pronouns of she and they didn’t exist until about the 12th century AD, well after Christianity was both a religion and had been translated into what was at the time a proto-english (~1000AD). At the time, he was actually a gender neutral pronoun.
