A day after easing restrictions on family remittances and travel to Cuba, the Biden administration announced the reversal of some energy sanctions on Venezuela amid widespread rejection of the exclusion of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela from the Summit of the Americas
It’s an act of desperation. US desperately needs oil from Venezuela after the blow back from the economic war with Russia, and Maduro made normalization of relations with Cuba a precondition.
For countries the US or EU hates, especially socialist countries or countries that could be turning socialist, either use RMB or your own currency. Hell even crypto. Cuba and DPRK using it to skirt sanctions are admittedly one good thing that it does. Though cryptobros seem to want to shut that down, so much for them pontificating crypto’s ability for escaping the clutches of oppressive regimes, if the oppressive regime is the US.
Yeah pretty much, I think US made a huge miscalculation with seizing Russia’s foreign assets. If they’re willing to do it to Russia then they could do it to anyone. Any country that’s not a vassal of the US now knows for a fact that they have to decouple from the western financial system in order to maintain sovereignty. Meanwhile, countries trading with Russia are already figuring out alternatives to SWIFT and as these things get ironed out the role of SWIFT will become greatly diminished.

Venezuela needs to charge their own currency as well because the US will absolutely play games with the Dollar
